Piazza del Comune in Pergine Valdarno is a suggestive place, as you can still enjoy the old Tuscan village atmosphere, and at the same time live cultural events and exhibitions, especially in summertime.
This residential unit is placed on the second floor of an historic building that was part of the frontline facing the square. The layout and the interior spaces were modified to meet the needs of our client: obtain a living room, improve technological facilities and create of a new toilet facility. These interventions were made without distorting the primitive structure of the building that was composed perimetrically by large stone, thick bricks, and by the so-called plug walls that identify the morphology of the roof in spaces division. On the opposite, the restoration has been made intervening on lightweight partitions made in the early decades of the ‘900 on steel profiles.
For the installations, in order to minimize the underpass steps, we used a space between the new false ceiling (where the luminaires were inclosed), the grating structure and the existing chipboard. Also constructing the underlay and consequently originating an air gap, we created and insulation between living space and attic.
The renewal spirit and the enhancement of the existing precious elements, involves also the external fixtures (with glassware installation), the internal renovated doors, the grit floors and the hexagonal coloured cements.
