Our architectural heritage could be abandoned by residents but it finds a new appreciation by foreign owners who are fascinated by our landscapes.
That’s the case of “La Casina”, an isolated house, immersed in the woods of Civitella in Val di Chiana, with a panoramic view over Valdarno and not far from the town of Ponticino.
The challenge was to completely replace roofs and reconstruct two interior floors on the first floor without cramming the existing masonry: one was completely collapsed and the other had important signs of collapse disruption as it was reported outside by the presence of an important cracking framework. The adopted solution for the first floor was to create a lightweight steel frame structure, overlooking the lower floor room, while for the other floor was to rebuild in a traditional way, at the same time consolidating the canton and reorganizing the constituent elements.
With the aim of restoring and pursuing the better use and comfort of internal environments, some previously rolled windows were reopened on both the ground floor and the first floor. We created a new bathroom, demolishing the existing one, that was originally built on the landing of the external staircase.
